The Green Circular District® Model

The District Circluar Model

NextChem, Maire Tecnimont Group’s company for energy transition, has developed a model of “Circular District” which integrates technologies for decarbonization and recycling, reducing incineration and landfilling:

  • Upcycling of post-consumer plastic materials which are recoverable: MyReplast® technology allows to recycle plastic waste producing recycled high-quality polymers which can replace virgin polymers of fossil origin.
  • Chemical recycling technology allows to produce Circular Hydrogen®, Circular MethanolTM, Circular EthanolTM – chemistry building block – not from fossil sources, but starting from waste fractions which are not recyclable, reducing carbon footprint of industrial brownfield sites.
  • Electrolysis technology application to produce green hydrogen, the most sustainable hydrogen type, with zero CO2 emissions.
The District Circluar Model

Our technological solution for chemical recycling allows to produce chemicals and circular fuels from plastic waste and dry fractions of urban waste. NextChem’s technological solution allows to obtain syngas through chemical conversion of hydrogen and carbon contained in post-consumer plastics and dry waste fractions, with a partial oxidation process followed by a subsequent purification phase without pollutant emissions into the atmosphere. The syngas obtained, with a high level of hydrogen and carbon monoxide but without hydrocarbon, can be considered as a “Circular gas”, because it comes from post-consumer materials recovered by chemical recycling.

NextChem, with this solution, develops a model which can be already realized today, with proven technologies and with an economic sustainability. Waste valorization is an integral part of the energy transition strategy, which cannot be separated from green chemistry.

NextChem’s Circular District Model® is particularly suitable for green recovery of industrial brownfield sites based on fossil-sources feedstock, which will be replaced with feedstock from renewable and circular sources.

THE BENEFITS

Increasing of recycling rate. Reduction of incineration and landfill. Replacement of fossil feedstocks with a reduction of CO2 emissions. Decrease of imports of industrially strategic Chemicals.
